SPORT RELIEF 2008 - "Bowl A Mile" The club wanted to do its bit for Sport Relief 2008 and came up with a good idea for fund raising that involves bowling - "Bowl A Mile".Knowing that there are 5280 feet in a mile. A bowling lane is 60 feet in length. So if a ball is rolled 88 times, it covers the mile distance. Rather than organise a separate bowling event, the junior members bowled their normal series on a Saturday morning. At the end of each session, individual score sheets are always printed to verify the scores. This print out was used for the Sport Relief Mile, marking each time a ball was rolled until the magic number was achieved. Obviously a single series of games was not enough to cover the 88 required rolls. Therefore, individual's scores for 2 consecutive weeks of bowling were checked until the required total was matched. These games were bowled on Saturday the 8th and 15th of March. Example's of the scoring below. These 3 games add up to 36 "Rolls".
Each of the junior bowlers had an individual sponsorship form, the total from these representing the clubs fund raising effort. Between our 14 regular Saturday morning bowlers, the club hoped to raise £70, any sponsorship above this target will be an added bonus. Update - "Mile" Completed Completed on Saturday the 15th of March, 10 of the regular Saturday morning bowlers were sponsored to "Bowl A Mile". As mentioned, each bowler had to bowl their ball 88 times to achieve the mile distance. Therefore, individuals would not complete an "Even" game, but scores were counted as described above. In total, 48.6 games were completed. This gave an overall pinfall count of 6711 and raised a grand total of £353.53p. An excellent achievement for the club as the target was only £70 ! Very well done to everyone who took part and congratulations on raising so much money. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
